The MAP Nº2, SEISMICITY OF THE NAZCA PLATE (Arica Bight) SUBDUCTION ZONE for the years 1973-2005 is quite self-explaining. It shows Increased Activity Areas (IAA) at different depths and the green zone between latitudes -18 and -23 degrees, intermediate depth, is the area whereat the last two important earthquakes have taken place. 2005 06 13 (7.8 Mw at 105 Km depth) and 2005 11 17 (6.9 Mw at 160 Km depth).

The TERREMOTO DE IQUIQUE MAP, shows activity as from the 2005 06 13 mainshock to the 2005 11 17 aftershock and most of it corresponds to the (green) IAA and follows the general direction of the Andes Mountains highest peaks.
